Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union Board Chairman John DiNofrio was recently honored at the 2017 CUNA Government Affairs Conference. He was inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders located in Washington, D.C. for giving his time and talents to the credit union industry for the last 55 years. John’s name was engraved on a plaque that is displayed in the Hall of Leaders to remind all who visit the Credit Union House of his efforts to perpetuate the credit union movement. In addition, he received a personal plaque to mark the occasion.

In 1979, John DiNofrio, a young employee of the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center and a board member of that credit union, wanted to bring the benefits of credit union membership more broadly to the public, to help more than just federal employees meet their financial goals. So John, his wife Marianne, and six of their closest friends joined together to found Linwood Community Federal Credit Union, which was later renamed Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union. That credit union merged with FAA Technical Center Federal Credit Union in 1994. In 2005, FAA Technical Center Federal Credit Union changed its name to Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union, coming full circle.

John was a key player in guiding Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union, established in 1963, to serve only FAA Technical Center employees to serving all of Atlantic and Cape May Counties. His guidance helped to grow Jersey Shore’s assets from $29 million in 1994 to the present day of nearly $150 million in assets.

John was also a major player in the establishment of the New Jersey Credit Union Foundation where he served as Chairman from 2003-2008. In addition, John has served several terms as Chairman of the New Jersey Credit Union League (NJCUL) Board of Directors. He received the "1999 New Jersey Distinguished Service Award”, the highest award given by the NJCUL. In October 2016, Mr. DiNofrio was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NJCUL for his life-long dedication to the credit union movement here in New Jersey.

John has been involved on a national level with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) serving on several different CUNA committees over the years. John has also been a strategic player in the political arena as a key supporter on various NJCUL Political Committees and was a key member in Congressional Delegations for New Jersey.

In 2010, John received the Credit Union (CU) Times Trailblazer Awards. This award honored him for the best the Credit Union Community had to offer.

John personifies what makes the credit union movement so distinctive and special, people helping people. Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union, along with the credit union industry, congratulates him on this prestigious award.
