We have noticed a recent uptick in fraudulent activity through apps and money sending services like Venmo, CashApp, Uber, etc. With apps like these that increase convenience for financial transactions there is also an increased risk of fraud. Here are some tips to make sure that your information and your money stay as safe as possible:

  • Ensure you have two layers of security. A pass-code to get into your phone and another to open the specific app
  • Do not save card information unless you absolutely have to
  • Never let a stranger borrow your phone, especially if you only have one layer of security
  • Use a credit card when possible because they tend to have better security
  •  Report any unexpected withdrawals or deposits*

*If you do feel that you have been a victim of fraud through one of the apps listed or a similar app then it is best to take the matter up directly with that company. You should have a quicker and smoother experience disputing the transaction directly with the company that processed it instead of your financial institution.
